FAQ

Middle Men is not only a gallery to shop for talent. We pride ourselves on being a bridge between local artists and businesses. We believe in supporting local and sustainable businesses, making production more diverse and inclusive, creating a platform for emerging talents, and furthering the reach of arts in Toronto.

  1. Sign up for a subscription depending on your company size. How many people do you think will need an account? How many producers or creative team members do you have?
  2. Use the gallery to find all the creative talent you need for your next project. You can filter by job title and keyword to narrow down your search for the perfect creative. Here you can look over creatives’ portfolios, message them for rates/bookings/etc, and favourite creatives that you would like to come back to later.
  3. Book your talent and see your project come to life.
  4. Receive an invoice to your account and make an easy, secure payment. All invoices and payments are stored on your accounts page for easy bookkeeping come tax season.

  • Our service is more affordable for both our clients and our creatives than alternative sites because we believe in creating opportunities for our users.
  • Access to a myriad of creatives. Toronto’s amazing diversity allows for Middle Men to collect musicians, filmmakers, designers, storytellers, and content creatives from every possible genre.
  • We Care. Middle Men was founded on the hope of making productions more relatable, more in-tune with the people, and creating opportunities for local artists to be at the forefront of that change.

Before any creative portfolio is live on the gallery we vet them for quality, references, and experience so it is unlikely that you should face challenges with your talent; however, we know that even with stringent vetting there may be some issues that arise.

Middle Men has the right to remove anyone from the site who exhibits behaviour that is discriminatory, threatening, or unprofessional. If you have had any of these experiences with a creative, we ask you file a complaint via info@localhost.

Middle Men is not responsible for any issues that arise from payment disputes as per our terms and conditions. If you have a problem, you can file a complaint to info@localhost and we will investigate but we are not liable for any loss of funds to either the Client or the Creative. We aim to be able to more fully address these types of issues in the near future.

After a job is complete, the creative will send you an invoice which you can click to pay on the site through our secure payment gateway and both invoice and payment will be recorded for easy bookkeeping come tax season.

In short, no.

Middle Men has the right to cancel subscriptions and remove members for making payments outside of the site as agreed to in our terms and conditions. To remain an affordable service for both Clients and Creatives we have created this strict policy.

If you don’t see your title here, you are still welcome to apply as we are always looking for new types of artists.

Every title has varying requirements, but we ask that you

  • have at least three years experience in your field
  • can show a minimum of five pieces of content showcasing your work
  • can list five recent projects that demonstrate skills and proficiencies in your practice

There is a chance that even with all of these requirements met, your portfolio will not be published on the site. This does not mean that you will be off the site forever. You can always reapply when you gain the necessary skills and/or experience.

Our team vets all portfolios before they can be visible to Clients to ensure relevant experience and proper quality – this includes any changes you make to an existing portfolio. You should expect to see your portfolio in 1-5 business days. We will send you an email if it does not meet our requirements.

Nothing goes into our pockets from Creatives, but there is a 5% service fee on payments to cover transaction costs and taxes.

When you have finished a job, you will fill out and send an invoice to your Client through our easy invoicing portal. The client then pays the invoice and the payment goes through Stripe* to your accounts page in “Transactions”.

All payments must be done on Middle Men. We have this policy to keep the site free for all Creatives and affordable for your Clients. If you receive payment off-site, we will remove your portfolio and deactivate your account as per our terms and conditions.

Yes. If you’re a multidisciplinary creative, you can create a portfolio for each niche you work in.

Middle Men has the right to remove any Creator or Client who does not follow our terms and conditions. If you experience a problem with a Client, write a complaint to info@localhost and we will investigate the matter.

All Creators are treated equally on Middle Men. We do not advertise some over others, but we can offer some tips and tricks to create a more accessible portfolio.

  1. Use keywords! Clients use these to filter their searches. Choosing the keywords that apply best to your work will enhance visibility. Using keywords that don’t apply to your work will make you less visible – think quality over quantity.
  2. Pick your most eye-catching image for the ‘Featured Image’. This is the first image Clients will see as they browse.
  3. Use a picture of yourself for your ‘Profile Picture’. Clients want to know who they will be working with. Images like cartoons, logos, and random graphic designs are less likely to get attention.
  4. Perfect your bio. This is the place to really sell yourself; who you are, what you do, how you do it. You are answering the question: Why pick me? Treat it like your cover letter, not an autobiography.
  5. Spell Check! No one wants to lose a Client because they mixed up there, their, and they’re.
